Greetings & Namaste!
Continuing the tradition of previous years, Nepalese Association of Queensland Inc. (NAQ), will honour outstanding community members in the areas of academic excellence and community service. These awards are available to any person of Nepalese origin and their family members regardless of their gender, race, religious and political background, residing temporarily or permanently with valid permit in Queensland, Australia.
On 6 September 2017, the NAQ administration has circulated an e-mail on the formation of 2017 NAQ Award Committee in which we were given the responsibility for recommendation of 2017 award recipients to the Executive Committee in the category of academic and community service excellences. Accordingly, this announcement has been made urging all eligible Nepalese community members of Queensland interested in nominating their candidacies for the awards to submit their nominations by the set deadline. This year’s award categories are as follows:
Academic Excellence Award
There are four awards available in this category. The sub-categories of this award are:
(a) High School Level award
A single award shall be presented in this sub-category. The award for this sub-category shall be evaluated based on the academic achievements in Year 12 high school examination from Queensland in the Financial Year Period between 1st July 2016 to 30th June 2017.
(b) University Level award for bachelor’s degree
A single award shall be presented in this sub-category. The award for this sub-category shall be evaluated based on the academic achievements in Bachelor Degree study from any Australian universities in the Financial Year Period between 1st July 2016 to 30th June 2017.
(c) University Level award for master’s degree
A single award shall be presented in this sub-category. The award for this sub-category shall be evaluated based on the academic achievements in Master Degree study from any Australian universities in the Financial Year Period between 1st July 2016 to 30th June.2017
(d) Doctorate degree award
This award shall be presented to all ethnic Nepalese Queenslanders who have completed PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) degree from any Australian universities in the Financial Year Period between 1st July 2016 to 30th June 2017
2. Community Service Award
A single award shall be presented in this category. The recommendation for this award shall be based on the evaluation of the nominated person’s service to the community, motivation, attitude, integrity, selfless dedication for the welfare and goodwill of the community, contribution towards the development and propagation of Nepalese culture, heritage and language within the community and beyond.
For community service award category, the person can either self-nominate or any other Nepalese community member residing in Queensland can recommend a suitable person for the award. In case of any community member/s recommending the other person of the community for the award, the recommending person/s must give in writing why he or she is deserved to be recognised and awarded by giving a brief history of the contributions and sacrifices that the person has made to the community. The self-nominating person for the community service award needs to provide his or her resume highlighting the contributions and the services that he or she has rendered to the community.
Each candidate filing nominations for the award must fill in the prescribed nomination form. For academic excellence awards the prescribed form needs to be accompanied by other supporting documents/credentials such as Queensland High school result e.g. as OP score, GPA, other certificate/s and testimonials which will assist the selection committee in making unbiased and impartial judgement on their achievements.

The nomination forms and the supporting documents can be emailed or hand delivered to any one of the under signed award selection committee members by the due date. The award presentation ceremony will be held during “NAQ’s Dashain & Tihar 2074 Celebrations” program (Time/Date: 4:30PM, 14/10/2017, & Venue : Mary Mac Hall, 616 Ipswich Rd, Annerley QLD 4103).

Nepalese Association of Queensland Inc.
Dear NAQ members,
NAQ Executive Committee (EC) has constituted a 3-member Election Commission to conduct an election for the office bearers and members of the Executive Committee of Nepalese Association of Queensland Inc. (NAQ) for year 2017/2018. The election will be held on Sunday, the 29th of October 2017 during the forthcoming NAQ’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The nomination for the candidacy for the following NAQ EC positions is now open:
4. Treasurer, and
5. Executive Members (five positions).
Please find the copy of NAQ Candidacy Application Form here for the election. A list of NAQ financial members will be made available at a later date by NAQ EC.
Following conditions apply for the nomination of candidacy and the election:
- Only the valid financial members of NAQ Inc. who have taken membership for more than one year as of the date of this announcement will be eligible to nominate as a candidate for the election.
- A member will be allowed to nominate as a candidate for only one EC positon.
- Each candidate nominating for candidacy must have at least one valid NAQ member, eligible for voting, to endorse his or her nomination.
- A duly completed and signed nomination form must be sent to the Election Commission by email (email@example.com) no later than 13th of October 2017. Any nominations received after the due date will not be entertained.
- Any withdrawal of candidacy must be done no later than 20th of October 2017 by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
- In the event that no nominations were received for any or some of the EC positions by the due date, the provisions of the NAQ’s Succession Plan will be implemented in accordance with article 7.5 of the NAQ’s Constitution.
- If more than one nomination is received for a position, an election will be held for the position by secret balloting. The arrangements for the polling will be provided later.
- If only one nomination is received for the position, the candidate will be automatically elected uncontested and no election will be held for the position.
The article 3.3.1 of the NAQ constitution has also made the provision of nominating two advisors for NAQ EC from within NAQ members. The Election Commission will consider the “Expression of Interests (EOI)” from the members during the AGM to become “Advisors” to the NAQ EC for 2017-18 Term. If more than two EOIs are received, the Returning Officers will make a selection of two candidates based on their involvement in and contribution to NAQ activities and present to the AGM for endorsement.
We will also like to draw your attention to the following:
- The result of the election for NAQ EC for year 2017-18 will be announced during the NAQ AGM.
- The decisions of the Election Commission will be final and no complains or actions will be entertained.
- The duties of the Returning Officers will cease after the election result has been announced and elected NAQ EC members have been introduced to the AGM.
