Mr. Tikaram Sarma

President

  • Mr. Sarma is a well known and dedicated community leader within the Nepalese diaspora in Queensland. Since becoming involved with the Queensland Nepalese community, he has contributed to numerous cultural, social, and welfare-driven projects with a strong focus on promoting language preservation, youth engagement, and cultural heritage.
  • He has served as a member of the Management Committee of the Queensland Nepalese Cultural Centre (QNCC) for the past two terms, where he played a key role in shaping initiatives and supporting community development. Notably, he contributed significantly to the success of the Centre’s previous fundraising campaign, earning recognition and appreciation from across the community.
  • Mr. Sarma is serving as the Secretary of the Nepalese Association of Queensland Inc. (NAQ), where he is working closely with local, state, and federal government representatives and agencies.
  • He has also been deeply involved in Nepali Pathshala, an initiative that teaches Nepalese language and culture to children, and has actively worked to engage Nepalese youth in broader community activities—helping to bridge generational gaps and foster a strong cultural identity.
  • Widely respected across the Nepali community for his humility, dedication, and collaborative spirit, he continues to serve with the goal of advancing unity, representation, and progress for the community.

Mrs. Debkala Shrees

Vice President

  • Mrs Shrees is a registered nurse by profession, works as an educator.
  • She is a proud member of Nepales Association of Queensland(NAQ) since 2008.
  • She has been continuously working with NAQ in different projects/programs such as, promoting and preserving Nepali culture and language, introducing Nepal in Australian communities and different charities for Nepal.

Personal Interests: volunteering, reading books, watching documentaries, hiking, socialising, cooking, singing and dancing.

Mr. Niranjan Thapa

Secretary

  • Mr. Thapa has a background in IT and works in Queensland Health in the IT Department.
  • He has been envolved in almost every Nepalese community event in Brisbane and surround and always ready to volunteer.
  • He is excited to contribute to the growth of our reputable organization and the unity of our groups, and I look forward to working closely with all of you.

Mr. Rajiv Timsina

Treasurer

  • Mr. Timsina’s involvement with NAQ began in 2011–2012 as a Student Coordinator within the executive committee Since then, he has consistently supported numerous programs and events, both formally and informally.
  • With a strong dedication to community service, he is passionate about promoting unity, cultural preservation, and meaningful engagement within the Nepalese community in Queensland.
  • He feels ”I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute once again as a member of the executive team and look forward to serving with integrity, transparency, and a shared vision for collective progress”.

Mr. Tak Thapa

Member

  • Mr. Thapa is originally from Rishing, Tanahun, and He has been living in Australia for the past nine years.
  • He currently works as a Digital Marketer.
  • Outside of work, he enjoys staying connected with the community and is always ready to lend a helping hand when needed.

Dr. Mohana Giri

Member

  • Dr. Giri is an AHPRA-registered general dentist. She completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Tribhuvan University, Nepal. After working as a general dentist for several years, she pursued Master’s degree (MDS) in Periodontology and Oral Implantology at the National Academy of Medical Sciences (Bir Hospital), Nepal. Upon completion she continued working at Bir Hospital as a Consultant Periodontist. Her professional interests encompass all areas of general dentistry, with a special focus on gum health, children’s dentistry, clear aligner orthodontics, and preventive dental care.
  • Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Giri is deeply committed to community oral health. In Nepal, she led and participated in numerous voluntary dental outreach programs, delivering care to underserved populations in rural areas. She also played a key role in training auxiliary health workers in basic oral health care under government-led initiatives.Her dedication to community service continues in Australia, where she has organized and participated in free dental camps for the Nepalese community in Brisbane.

Mr. Ankit Shrestha

Member

  • Mr Shrestha first arrived in Australia in 2008 and spent many years living in Sydney before relocating to Brisbane in December 2021. During that time, he was fortunate to witness and be part of the growth of the Nepalese diaspora and the important role our community plays in enriching the multicultural fabric of Australia.
  • After moving to Brisbane, He has had the privilege of becoming part of the vibrant and supportive Nepalese community.
  • He is truly grateful for the opportunity to be involved with this wonderful community and is committed to contributing wherever possible. Hw is looking forward to actively participating in community initiatives and assisting with various engagements to support and uplift Nepalese community in Brisbane.

Mr. Sunil Basnet

Member

  • Mr. Basnet is an engineer by profession. He currently reside in the southern part of Brisbane's metropolitan area, where he enjoys participating in various sports, such as football, swimming, and basketball.
  • While he doesn't have prior experience as an executive member in any organization, He is thrilled to be connected to Nepalese Association of Queensland(NAQ) and look forward to contributing.
  • Traveling is another one of his passions.

Mr. Kumar Dhakal

Member

  • Mr. Dhakal has been living in Australia since 1997 and relocated to Brisbane in 2015.
  • He brings extensive experience in the hospitality industry, having worked in the sector for many years. In addition to his hospitality background, Mr. Dhakal has over nine years of entrepreneurial experience, primarily through owning and managing a Bakers Delight franchise.
  • Outside of his professional life, Mr. Dhakal has a keen interest in sports and music.
